Wow, I actually slept in this morning. But then again, I only slept till 9am. I went to bed around 10:30 last night and my body actually was ready to wake up at 6:30 this morning, but I kept on sleeping because Allie wasn’t awake yet. I wouldn’t say I went back to sleep, or didn’t go into any deep sleep for the rest of the morning, but it was nice to have the option to just stay in bed. When we did get up, I used the hotplate to make some oatmeal, while Allie ventured up the street to buy some fruit. We ate our oatmeal with some cut up bananas and drank our coffee on our little balcony outside our room. It was a lovely morning, and by the end of the meal, I had taken off my hoodie to get some sun.
We both decided to work out a little. Allie went for a run and I did my routine on the rooftop. Right next to our balcony, but not adjoining, was another balcony which had a ladder up to the rooftop. I thought this would be a great place to do my workout, but after about 30 mins, a woman informed me that I was on the roof of a private residence. Oops! So much for working out in a spot with a killer view. I’ll just go do it on the beach tomorrow.
Once we were both back in the room, we agreed that all we really wanted to do for the next few hours was read. We went out onto the balcony and got some more sun. The weather really was just so beautiful. There was a nice breeze and a beautiful sky. The Aegean was just off the the side of the balcony, but I angled my chair so as to get the best view. There was a man just off in the distance tending to his olive tree grove. They were just little saplings at this point and I think we was picking out the weeds. After a little over an hour my skin was on the verge of getting burned, so I went back into the room to read and nap.
After a nap, we set out to find this Mexican restaurant, Senor Zorba’s (isn’t that a great restaurant name?), that we passed on the way to the hotel from the port. We walked a good ways only to discover that it was closed. We are still in the off season so most of the restaurants and hotels are still closed. Closer to town we found an open pizza place called Tobasco (their slogan is “so wood so good”), but of course, neither Allie nor I ordered pizza. We each opted for something a bit different: I chose the stuffed tomato and green pepper, while she got a crepe stuffed with veggies and cheese. This place served the best bread we’ve had on the trip so far. It came out piping hot and smelling wonderful.
After lunch, we stopped in at a cheap internet cafĂ©, and checked our email. I stopped by the grocery store and bought some much needed shampoo and of course bought some oranges. The Greek oranges just can’t be met. They are so much better than anywhere else we have been. I also scored a decent yellow apple and munched on that on the way back to the hotel. By this time it was 6:00 and I was glad to get in bed and read some more. I am now reading Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. We ate some of our grocery store purchases and I’m sure it will be an early night tonight.
